The 21 problems of the third book. Almost all ask for three numbers with crossed conditions on sums or products of pairs, and the dominant tool is the double equation: two expressions linear in x that must be squares at once, which Diophantus solves by splitting their difference into two factors. The book culminates in III.19, which requires four right triangles with the same hypotenuse and where the composition of sums of two squares (65 = 5 · 13) appears for the first time.

The solutions reproduce step by step what Diophantus does, with his choices of numbers and his discarded attempts, following Tannery (1893) and Heath (1910). Problems 20 and 21 repeat II.15 and II.14. The equations column gives the modern formulation and lets you run the solution in SageMath.

oculta las soluciones para intentar los problemas; muestra las ecuaciones para ver, junto a cada uno, su formulación moderna, su resolución algebraica y una celda de SageMath; con las ecuaciones a la vista, muestra la geometría para ver qué variedad define el problema (dimensión, género, parametrización, curva elíptica con su grupo de Mordell–Weil y enlace a la LMFDB) hide the solutions to try the problems yourself; show the equations to see, beside each one, its modern formulation, its algebraic solution and a SageMath cell; with the equations shown, show the geometry to see which variety the problem defines (dimension, genus, parametrization, elliptic curve with its Mordell–Weil group and LMFDB link)
